The desk pad will look bad and fall apart way sooner than a full grain leather desk pad. Genuine or Split Leather is when all of the grain is shaved or split off. It is still good leather, but not as good as it used to be. When there is still a little of the grain left, that's what you call Top Grain Leather. IT's like shaving the shingles off of your roof. Most companies shave off the top layer of the hide to get rid of any of the character of the hide like scars or tiny bug bites, but in reality are shaving off the hardest and toughest part of the hide. The grain is the toughest and most water-resistant part. This leather desk pad is made of full grain leather, which means it still has all of the grain intact on the top layer of the hide. The thickness of the leather will even out any desk whether plank or pallet. Our leather desk pads are lined with suede on the bottom to grip the desk without sliding much. And our leather desk pads have a slight bit of high-density Neoprene beneath the leather to give it a raised look and just the right amount of bounce. The feel of writing on a stone, glass or hardwood top compared to writing on a leather desk pad, is clear. You want the pen to sink in just enough to get the edges of the tip of the pen onto the paper too. Leather has always been the choice pad for writing on because it has "bounce" to it for the pen tip. All of these are considerations for creating a great office space.
